Fishing Report  2-20-12

It was a great week to be fishing in theRiceLakearea.  The warm weather has brought out fishermen by the score.  I didn’t get out the first part of the week, but I made up for it on the weekend.  All day Friday the bluegills were very active.  Several groups of fishermen got their limit early in the day.

Those that went out later in the day for crappies also did well.  They were biting on plastic, plastic tipped with a waxie or a crappie minnow.  When the light snow started there was a time when you couldn’t keep your bait down the hole without a bite.

I really enjoyed my trip out Friday so much that I went again on Saturday.  This time I brought along a fishing buddy to enjoy the good fishing.  Wouldn’t you know, things started out slow.  They picked up closer to sunset, and we took turns catching first bluegills and then crappies.  There was a time when as soon as you dropped your glow jig down the hole you could see the fish come up off the bottom.  All in all we did well and came home with a nice mess of fish.

The best northern fishing ironically was on the north end ofRiceLake.  The tip-ups were set right in the race track, which is over some cribs.  There was a 3 pound northern taken followed by a 7 pound northern.  I guess we are getting multiple use from our lake.
