Panfish Aplenty in Rice Lake
Bluegill action has been very good
December 14, 2010—(Rice Lake, WI)—The panfish are biting. Bluegill and crappie are both being caught, with bluegills in the lead. Some anglers are reporting that they have been catching their limit of bluegills.
The best bait for early-season ‘gills is a tiny jig tipped with a waxie or small plastic body. Fish have been taking baits pretty readily. Overall, it’s a very good early-season bite.
Remember that ice depths can vary on any lake. The thickest ice is on bays and sheltered sections of water. However, the recent snow cover has slowed ice production somewhat. The snow can cover potential problem areas. Venture out with caution and use an ice spud to test ice as you go.
The first step in catching fish is being safe. Now go catch some fish.
